The Hamstring Invitational
Who?
I am inviting a bunch of friends from the volleyball crew, some friends we made at Cornell, as well as my friends that I coach track with! Dogs are strongly encouraged to attend.
What?
Let's come together to celebrate Isaiah's 31st birthday in a way that none of us probably should: running, jumping, throwing, kicking...all of the things that our old bodies will ultimately reject. This will be a field-day-style, multi-sport concoction of games and friendly competition. Bring cleats/trail shoes, athletic clothes, advil, Icy Hot, and beer - we'll need it!
When?
2:30pm on Saturday, May 2nd
This is something that I actually need everyone to show up on time for, not fashnionable late!
Where?
The main event: Alta Loma Park in South San Francisco
Karaoke after-party: Harper-Smith Home (306 F St. in Colma)
* You can park at the BART station garage. It's free and close to our house!
How?
Everyone will be split up into two teams before the event begins, depending on all RSVPs. I will try to make teams as even and competitive as possible! Some of the events will be competed as individuals, some will be full team events. Not everyone will want to or be able to compete in some of the individual events and that is okay. We'll adjust the scoring in those cases to make it as fair as possible.
Scoring
For individual events, a point will be given for each person you beat in your specific heat or the overall event, plus 1. For example, there will be a max 4 people in each heat of the 40 yd dash. First place in each heat will earn 4 points (beat 3 people, plus 1), and last place 1 point (beat 0 people, plus 1). In the plank wars, for example, there might be 10 people participating. The person who wins will earn 10 points (beat 9 people, plus 1), second place earns 9, and so on. Men and women will be scored separately in all individual events except for the Plank Wars. If one team has less individuals competing in a partiuclar event than the other team, the team with more compeitors will lose the points of their lowest scoring members to match the same number of scorers on each team.
For team events, only the winning team will earn points. Each team event will be worth the following points:
- The Gauntlet - 10 points
- Tug 'O War - 14 points
- Battleship - 16 points
- The Relay - 20 points
Why?
To see who the best athlete is? To see how many 30+ year olds we can get hurt? Who knows why, but I bet it'll be fun!
